WeCar rates reduced, more cars added

Hourly rates for the WUSTL WeCar program will be reduced beginning Monday, Nov. 1. The WeCar program allows WUSTL students, faculty, staff and employees of qualified service providers to rent vehicles on campus at an hourly rate. The new rates, as of Nov. 1, are $5 per hour for a sedan and $8 per hour for an SUV. FULL STORY

The NLRA at 75: A changed workforce

The National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Marion Crain, JD, the Wiley B. Rutledge Professor of Law, looks at the act’s history and says changes in the American workplace and other factors raise the question of how the NLRA will adapt in the future. FULL STORY

Could soy reduce asthma symptoms?

In a recent clinical study of people with asthma, scientists found that those who consumed the least amount of soy had the most flare-ups of their asthma symptoms. The School of Medicine and other institutions around the country are conducting a trial to test the effect of soy compounds on asthma symptoms. FULL STORY

Picture this: A gift from space

NASA astronaut and WUSTL alum Robert L. Behnken, PhD, presents to Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton a photograph of James S. McDonnell that had traveled into space and been signed by his fellow astronauts. Modern humans emerged far earlier than previously thought

An international team of researchers, including a WUSTL anthropologist, has discovered well-dated human fossils in southern China that markedly change  perceptions of the emergence of modern humans in the eastern Old World. The research was published Oct. 25 in the online edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. FULL STORY

Global citizenship in a borderless world

  • Football wins four in a row. The Bears extended their winning streak to four with a 21-7 win at home over Oberlin College Oct. 23. Special teams play was the key in the victory, with contributions from sophomore kicker Eric Chalifour (2-of-2 on field goals) and junior punter Austin Morman. The Bears improve to 5-2 overall and are off to their best start since 2007.
